ResumoThe name of Valentin Rasputin needs no introduction to the reader. His short novels and stories have gained entry into the list of serious works of current Soviet prose. This is the more indicative because the writer's career began comparatively recently. The first collections of his sketches and stories were published in Irkutsk and Krasnoiarsk in 1966, and he won wide renown with the short novels Money for Maria [Den'gi dlia Marii] and The Final Period [Poslednii srok], which won high praise from the critics.
