Der Rezeptor trägt zwei äquivalente Molekülarme, die jeweils mit einer Thioharnstoff-Gruppe ausgerüstet sind. Die gelbe Farbe des Rezeptor-Anion-Komplexes stammt von einer ausgeprägten π-Elektronen-Delokalisierung, induziert durch die starken Wasserstoffbrücken zwischen den F−-Ionen und den inneren NH-Gruppen der Thioharnstoff-Einheiten.
