ResumoThis is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic prophylaxis in the prevention of bacterial infections and improvement of survival in neutropenic patients following chemotherapy for malignancy. In doing so, this study intends to estimate the mortality and frequency of bacterial infections, and the frequency of adverse effects associated with different types of antibiotic prophylaxis. Secondary objectives: * Test whether the effectiveness of different antibiotic regimens are similar; * Ask which subgroups of patients which may benefit most from prophylaxis; * Address the issue of emergence of quinolone‐resistant‐gram‐negative bacteria; * Address the issue of adverse effects of the antibiotic regimen.
