Resumo

Significance Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League (AL) is targeting a third consecutive term. It faces a challenge from the Jatiya Oikya Front (JOF), a recently formed opposition alliance that includes leader Kamal Hossain’s Gono Forum and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Impacts Pre-poll rallies are likely to see clashes between opposition supporters and security personnel. There may be only a limited number of international election observers, due to global fund shortages. Bangladesh will postpone key decisions regarding the Rohingya crisis until after the election.
