ResumoTelomeres are specialized structures at the ends of eukaryotic linear chromosomes, consisting of protein-bound tandemly repeated simple DNA sequences. Telomeric DNA is unique in that it is copied from an RNA template that forms part of the enzyme, telomerase. This review discusses the synthesis and maintenance of these unusual structures.
