ResumoGraphical Abstract In the graph, the comparison of the relative frequency of mitochondrial D-loop haplotypes in overall translocated females during 2000–2016 in comparison with Hiiumaa and Tallinn Zoo's European mink populations in 2017, can be seen. Our study describes how the European mink's Hiiumaa Island population's genetic diversity was comparable to that of the founder population from Tallinn Zoo. Genetic results combined with the pedigree data from the European mink EEP studbook show that the island population was formed gradually over the course of the past seven yearly translocations.
