Significance Popular dissatisfaction is growing with Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada's authoritarian style and the government's failure to meet its electoral promises. Allegations of manipulation of judicial institutions come amid a growing defensiveness on the government's part, with the defence minister recently claiming to have foiled an assassination attempt against Trovoada.
