Resumo

Designing the latest carbon-fibre racing bikes, assessing the stroke velocity of swimmers and monitoring extreme physical performance are some of the challenges that will be discussed in a campaign to highlight the critical role that science, engineering and technology plays in the Olympic Games and other sporting events. The campaign, which is being organized by the Engineering and Technology Board (ETB) in partnership with the British Olympic Association, is the first in a series of year-long initiatives designed to inspire more young people to study and to pursue careers in science, engineering and technology. It will run throughout the UK in 2004 through a series of regional roadshows, expert debates, competitions and a schools lecture tour organized by the Institute of Physics.
