Resumo

How did life continue on the other side of the lake, after Jules and Mimi Grossmann had moved to Thalwil? The two of them made themselves at home in the Villa Rosenau and kept an open, hospitable house there. Amélie, the daughter from Jules’ first marriage, moves to Thalwil after working in Mecklenburg-Schwerin and again begins to study at the arts and crafts school, but once again drops out. It speaks for the tradition-conscious Jules that he doesn’t press his indecisive daughter to marry, who at 29 has reached the upper age limit for marriage according to the notions of that time, but instead supports her practising a profession. He offers the young woman a position in the family enterprise, for which she would be well suited with her talent for languages. Amélie declines, but at least she helps her stepmother Henriette whilst she is living in the Villa Rosenau.
