ResumoWe are on the verge of a complete revolution in the delivery of ultra-high-quality digital audio. Although it has yet to be commercially released, DVD-Audio was the first high-bandwidth, high-resolution audio system to be announced. A rival system known as Direct Stream Digital (DSD) has been jointly developed by Sony and Philips. Released in Japan in 1999, the system, also-called Super Audio CD (SACD), is incompatible with the PCM-format CD and DVD standards for digital audio.
