ResumoAbout the coverA human natural killer (NK) cell (small cell) is shown on this month's cover conjugated to a tumor cell (large cell), thus forming an immunologic synapse.The accumulation of actin filaments (blue) and CD2 (red) at the immunologic synapse can be seen preceding the localization of the cytolytic molecule perforin (green).This picture conveys the aggressive and fatal embrace of NK cells with viral-infected cells or cancer cells in a dynamic process taking place over a time interval of up to 4 hours.The cover image is pertinent for the 3 major thematic articles of this issue of the Journal: (1) the Clinical Review on NK cell deficiency by J. S. Orange (p 515), (2) the Mechanisms of Allergic Diseases article on NK cells in allergic diseases by G. Deniz, W. van de Veen, and M. Akdis (p 527), and (3) the Current Perspectives article on NK cell biology by K. S. Campbell and J.
