Danish seismologist Inge Lehmann died on February 21 at the age of 105. In 1971, she was awarded AGU's William Bowie Medal, given for outstanding contributions to fundamental geophysics and unselfish cooperation in research. She was also an AGU Fellow. Lehmann's career began in 1925 in Copenhagen, where she was responsible for the establishment of a large seismic network with stations in several locations. She became chief of the Seismological Department of the Royal Danish Geodetic Institute in 1928, and held the position until her retirement in 1952. For 25 years, she was the only Danish seismologist.
