ResumoDevelopment and characterization of biodegradable films obtained from corn starch: a proposal for the experimental production of biofilms in the classroom. The aim of this paper is to propose an experimental chemical activity at a high school level, using an environmental approach. It is possible to prepare low cost biodegradable films, with an usual chemical content acquisition, and a process that is simple to perform, emphasizing the fundamental concepts for the insertion of environmental education within the daily routine of students.Biofilms were produced from corn starch with glycerol and potassium sorbate through the casting technique. After drying the solvent of the corn starch slurry the biofilms were characterized with regard to thickness, moisture content and solubility. These activities, besides having the effect of bringing experimentation in the classroom, stimulate the interest of the students by reducing the environmental impact caused by the use of synthetic polymers and derivates of the petroleum.
