Geological and Tectonic Studies in Latin America

The aim of this work is to contibute to the sedimentologic and faciologic knowledge of the so called Rocha Group. The metasedimentary sequence structures are described and characterízed by textural and compositional analysis. The sequence presents low grade metamorphism and deformation in large areas. A more detailed study was done in areas where there is no conspicuous deformation, based on field evidence. The present distribution of the metasediments suggests a northwestward basal portion. From the results and interpretation of the facies units, Formación Rocha is proposed to include all the low grade supracrustals of the Rocha Group.
