Die Reaktion ist mit verschiedenen Aldehyden, Ketonen und Polyolefin-Alkohol-Substraten kompatibel. Zusätzlich gelang die Totalsynthese von (±)-Moluccansäuremethylester mit einer solchen Prins-Reaktion/Polyencyclisierung als Schlüsselreaktion.
