The Academy of Operative Dentistry's 38th Annual Meeting once again offers an incredible group of world-class essayists, more than 30 table clinics filled with practical information and personal demonstrations and a wonderful social program. Our meeting is the heart of the Academy and is held in conjunction with the Chicago mid-winter meeting and various other academy meetings so that attendees can maximize the benefits of their time and travel. Please plan to join your colleagues and fellow academy members to receive cutting-edge information and be revitalized in your commitment to excellence in dentistry.Please register for this meeting no later than January 23rd (and preferably earlier) and help the Academy fill our block of rooms by staying at the Fairmont Hotel. This is essential for the success of our meeting and helps us to maintain the most advantageous meeting fee structure for our members.Remember, the Academy of Operative Dentistry is an ADA-CERP recognized provider, and the Academy will award attendees 12 hours of continuing education at the 2009 meeting. A certificate will be provided to each registrant at the conclusion of the meeting.SCIENTIFIC SESSION: Thursday's lineup starts in the Imperial Ballroom with Dr Richard Stevenson presenting the Richard V Tucker Lecture of Excellence, “Challenges Educators Face in Preparing Professionals in the 21st Century.” Dr Wenyuan Shi follows with “Probiotic Approaches to Oral and Systemic Disease.” The 28th Buonocore Memorial Lecture, “Dental Erosion: Diagnosis, Risk Factors, Prevention and Therapy,” will be presented by Dr Adrian Lussi. The highlight of Thursday's luncheon will be the presentation of the Hollenback Memorial Prize to Dr James Summitt. Thursday afternoon features Dr Carlos Eduardo presenting “Dental Lasers,” followed by Drs Margherita Fontana and Mathilde Peters addressing “Caries Risk Assessment in Practice.” Finally, Dr Marc B Cooper will close Thursday's program with his thoughts on “Anterior Aesthetics.”Friday morning introduces a three-speaker interactive panel that should provide outstanding interplay with the audience. Dr Ana Jewett will discuss “Pulpal Reactions to Dental Materials, Dr John Witworth will present “Endodontists or Root Canal Therapists? Could We Manage Our Troubled Pulps Better?” and Dr Tom Hilton will cover “Direct and Indirect Pulp Capping.” Friday's lunch will be conducted in the Mid-America Club and will feature the presentation of the Academy's Award of Excellence to Dr Warren Johnson. The 2009 annual session will conclude with more than 30 informative table clinics presented on Friday afternoon. These table clinics are always concise, focused presentations that provide a wealth of “pearls” for us to take back to our offices. In addition, there will be hands-on breakout sessions dealing with Conservative Cast Gold, Direct Gold and Implants and Anterior Aesthetics.RECEPTION: Finally, our Gala Reception on Thursday evening will once again provide a wonderful, once-a-year platform for socializing with all our friends and colleagues from across the country and around the world.
