Obwohl zunächst nicht einsichtig, ergab die Ringschlussmetathese (RCM) einer Cyclisierungsvorstufe mit zehn Doppelbindungen selektiv und in hoher Ausbeute den makrocyclischen Kern von Iejimalid B, einem potenten marinen cytotoxischen Wirkstoff. Ein Ansatz über eine Makrolactonisierung zur Synthese dieses komplexen Zielmoleküls führte hingegen nicht zum Erfolg.
