Resumorelationship between anger, aggression, anxiety and threat perception in competitive sport: a study in different physical contact sports.AbstrAct despite anger being one of the most relevant emotions in sport competition, few studies have focused on this emotion.therefore, this study intended to understand and analyse, within different types of sports with different levels of physical contact, the relationships between threat appraisals underlying the experience of stress and anxiety, anger and aggressiveness.the 121 athletes of both genders who participated in this study, ranging between the ages of 14 and 32, were distributed by three types of sport: self-defence, kickboxing and soccer.the following psychological measures were administered: a) Cognitive appraisal scale in sport Competition -threat perception; b) Competitive aggressiveness and anger scale; c) sport anxiety scale -2.results suggested the positive associations between the cognitive dimensions of anxiety and anger,and between anxiety and threat appraisals. it was also found that anxiety tends to decrease among team sport, but anger and aggressiveness seem to increase.additionally, female athletes tended to show higher levels of somatic anxiety and lower levels of anger and aggressiveness.some practical implication will also be suggested for the study of anger in sport.
