Resumo

Although many nematodes produce disease in humans, three produce most human disease worldwide, and they are emphasized in this article. These include the Onchocerca volvulus that infects the skin and the lymphatic residing Wuchereria bancrofti and Brugia malayi. The complex biology of these nematodes is outlined and includes discussions of life cycles, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment. Loiasis and dirofilariae are also presented.
