Tópico(s)Phonetics and Phonology Research
ResumoPhoneticians often classify vowels according to their phonetic quality which is considered as independent of other features, such as pitch, loudness, and personal quality. The implications of these distinctions are discussed, and definitions of the terms “personal quality” and “phonetic quality” are suggested. Some of the ways in which the phonetic quality of a vowel is described are examined, and the possibility of specifying the phonetic quality by means of instrumental measurements is also investigated.
