ResumoThis year we thank again all those who have contributed to the progress and success of Movement Disorders. The past year was very productive. The number of manuscripts reached 1200 and the impact factor stabilized above 3.2. Many of the new innovations which were developed during a strategic meeting in late 2007 have been realized over the past year. The most obvious one is the new cover. Case reports are now printed as letters, including videos, the correspondence about matters related to articles in Movement Disorders has increased, the CME-program is flourishing and we have had more clinical and basic reviews. The collaboration with the newly recruited web-page editors, Hubert Fernandez and Marcello Merello, is well established. On the MDS website, we now have an “Editor's Choice” article from Movement Disorders each month that is available free of charge to web-page visitors. The success of our journal heavily depends on excellent submissions from our authors, excellent reviews from our reviewers, a responsive readership, a qualified editorial board, an editorial team dedicated to their service, and a publisher with commitment and experience. We are glad to say that the factors worked again very well in 2008. We thank all parties for their continuous and dedicated support of the journal. In particular we thank the many colleagues who have been ad-hoc reviewers this year and have taken so much of their time and energy to improve submitted manuscripts and to provide the necessary critiques. Their advice, expertise, and constant dedication are pivotal to us as Co-Editors. We know that with increasing submission rates the work load is increasing, but their help is indispensible for maintaining a scientific journal anchored in peer-review. The number of ad-hoc reviewers is always increasing and as always we list their names at the end of this editorial. The Editorial Board is a group of outstanding specialists in our field devoting even more of their time to journal work. They help us to select important topics, judge on particularly delicate manuscripts and to weigh the value of supplements. As a token of appreciation, we have begun the tradition of inviting those with the most reviews to the annual Editorial Board Dinner at the MDS congress. We thank particularly those colleagues who rotate off our board at the end of 2008. These are: Richard Allen, Alim Louis Benabid, Helen Bronte-Stewart, Carlo Colosimo, Richard Dodel, Hubert Fernandez, Nir Giladi, Patricia Limousin-Dowsey, Ludger Schoels, and Glenn T. Stebbins. They all served for 4 years and were extremely helpful for both giving advice with difficult scientific questions and with decisions related to journal policy. We would also like to welcome the incoming new Editorial Board members: Richard Camicioli, Ted Dawson, Alfonso Fasano, Giuseppe Meco, Tetsutaro Ozawa, Walter Paulus, Michael Schuepbach, Bob van Hilten, Jens Volkmann, and Daniel Weintraub. We are looking forward to their new input and their collaboration during the next years. Our review editors David Burn (Clinical Reviews), Etienne Hirsch (Basic Reviews) and Andrew Lees (History) have been responsible for soliciting and coordinating new submissions and for overseeing the review process for these manuscripts. We are very grateful to them for establishing and maintaining this important program. The CME program was launched last year and was developed in close collaboration with the CME committee of the Movement Disorder Society. The team of Kelly Lyons with Per Odin and Oscar Gershanik has developed and maintained this feature of our journal which is now internet-based. At the administrative level, we are very grateful to the journal Oversight Committee, chaired by Andrew Lees. This group advises on the financial and administrative backbone of the journal and provides us with feedback on a large number of issues related to the interface between the journal and MDS. Finally, our particular personal and professional thanks go to Anette Seils and Bernadette Gillard, administrative assistants to the journal in the Kiel and Chicago offices, and to Steven Kyritz and Jennifer English at Wiley Publishers.
