Here the two voices belong to twins Sam and Ilsa, who are about to lose their grandmother’s lavish, rent-controlled apartment, where they have hosted awesome themed dinner parties over the years, and where gay Sam, as the favorite, has a bedroom, much to the dismay of the slighted Ilsa. Each twin has invited three guests to one final party, which marks not only the loss of their place but also the significant turning point of leaving high school to move on to college . . . or not, as both sibs are reluctant to venture beyond the lives they have known into a future that might be less fabulous and certainly involves more risk. The high drama and exceedingly clever quips would be enough to make the occasion memorable, but as the booze arrives on the scene, so does the worldly advice from their guests, some of whom have lived less sheltered lives than our protagonists, and others who offer avenues for controlled venturing forth the pair had not considered. With surprising substance under the latte-art layer of foam, this quick read offers a satisfying blend of entertaining quirkiness and thought-provoking wisdom for teens on the brink of what’s next.
