Resumo

Angioscopy is the process of endoscopic examination of the vascular system. Since the mid-1980s, angioscopy has become an accepted intraoperative and percutaneous procedure in peripheral vascular surgery and vascular interventional radiology as well as in cardiology and cardiac surgery. This article reviews the history, applications, equipment, and techniques of angioplasty. Several case examples that demonstrate the applications and value of angioscopy in clinical practice are presented.
