ResumoThis Events & Sightings installment covers a range of recent events focusing on the history of computing. Dave Walden recaps the MIT 150th anniversary and MIT Museum Project Whirlwind presentation and the IEEE Milestone in packetized speech recognized at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Akihiko Yamada also covers two recent Japanese computing history events: the IPSJ 4th Information Processing Technology Heritage Certification Ceremony and the 2011 NEC C&C Foundation Prizes given to Akira Yoshino (for his work on lithium-ion batteries) and to Norman Abramson and Robert M. Metcalfe (for their work on Internet packet access, ALOHAnet, and Ethernet).
