During a daylong drive around his hometown of Lubbock, Texas, a singer-songwriter named Sonny Curtis (and one-time bandmate of Buddy Holly) reveals his life in fragments and glib stories to his daughter, a writer trying to find the story inside the situation. The trip ends at the ghostly ruins of their family farm, a place haunted by memories and absences.
