ResumoMushroom poisoning, a well known problem in Central Europe is now recognized as a major problem also in the United States where the gathering of wild mushroom seems to become more and more popular. Nobody can define the incidence of this medical emergency. Years ago Costantino [1] estimated only for the Amanita poisoning. 50–100 cases/year in Northern Italy and large patient populations are reported also from France, Germany, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Poland. Friedman [2] reports for the USA “… more than 100 deaths each year from consumption of wild mushrooms”.
