Seventy-five such cases (39 centrilobular, 36 panlobular) have been subjected to clinical analysis. Centrilobular emphysema is characterized by distention and destruction of the central part of secondary lung lobules involving the terminal respiratory bronchioles; panlobular (panacinar) by destruction of entire secondary lung lobules.Clinically, three-fourths of centrilobular cases have an insidious onset with dyspnea preceded by cough.
