ResumoIn this article, we try to analyze the process that ended with the donation of the Ilhas Canárias or Afortunadas by the Pope Clement VI to D. Luis de la Cerda or de España (1291-1348).This happened against the desires of the Portuguese king, D. Afonso VI, who did not spare any efforts to recover the territory.According to the king, it was part of the kingdom's expansion projects since his father was in power and the islands had already been visited by Portuguese
