Resumo

Free-radical technology can be combined with immunoassay to yield an entirely new system for detection and assay of small molecules in biologic fluids. The method, called "spin immunoassay," has substantial advantages over radioimmunoassay and standard procedures such as thin-layer and gas-liquid chromatography. The assay requires only a very small volume of the unknown solution (eg, urine, saliva), no chemical manipulations are needed, and the result is obtained by an instantaneous readout on the electron spin resonance spectrometer. This technique can be applied to the quantitative determination of opiate narcotics in urine and saliva.
