Resumo

Significance The downward revisions come amid a recent debilitating fuel crisis, with state-owned oil company Sonangol unable to distribute fuel. In response, President Joao Lourenco on May 8 dismissed Carlos Saturnino as Sonangol chairman and replaced him with Gaspar Martins. Impacts Saturnino’s dismissal could prompt Isabel dos Santos to end her self-imposed exile if an informal accommodation with Lourenco is reached. Public protests, which have been small until now, could grow if the situation deteriorates again. Lourenco’s public popularity could take a hit, particularly if a food crisis also takes hold.
