Resumo

The characteristics and mechanism of idioventricular tachycardia are described. This rhythm is an enhanced idioventricular rhythm which becomes manifest when the ectopic ventricular rate exceeds the sinus rate. The ectopic ventricular locus giving rise to this rhythm is not protected from the impulses of the sinus pacemaker. The nomenclature of this arrhythmia is re-appraised.
