Portuguese abstract: Com este trabalho pretendemos mostrar, por meio das charges presentes no jornal O Estado de S. Paulo (OESP), como este apoiou, inicialmente, o governo Castelo Branco e suas medidas políticas e econômicas repressivas; mas, ao longo do tempo, foi enfraquecendo este apoio, até chegar à condenação, especialmente após as medidas tidas como "liberalizantes” como as eleições de 1965. Pretendemos mostrar como o jornal irá tentar reinventar a história e a memória de si como um jornal de vertente liberal e democrática ao afirmar, hodiernamente, que não apoiou certos atos repressivos como o AI-2 e que romperam com a ditadura por estes motivos. Entretanto, veremos que não só apoiam este Ato, como criticam a falta de medidas mais duras por parte de Castelo – culminando com o apoio à candidatura de Costa e Silva, visto como alguém capaz de “salvar o espírito da revolução". Iremos mostrar essas posições políticas, e suas alternâncias, mediante o uso das charges presentes no jornal, pois estas são, até certo período da história da mídia, a expressão da opinião dos jornais expressas em seus editoriais.English abstract: With this work we intend to show, through the cartoons present in the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo (OESP), how it initially supported the Castelo Branco government and its repressive political and economic measures; but, over time, this support weakened, until it reached condemnation, especially after the measures considered "liberalizing" like the 1965 elections. We intend to show how the newspaper will try to reinvent its history and memory as a newspaper liberal and democratic aspect when affirming, nowadays, that it did not support certain repressive acts like AI-2 and that they broke with the dictatorship for these reasons. part of Castelo - culminating in the support of Costa e Silva's candidacy, seen as someone capable of “saving the spirit of the revolution”. We will show these political positions, and their alternations, using the cartoons present in the newspaper, as these are, up to a certain period in the history of the media, the expression of the opinion of newspapers expressed in their editorials.
