ResumoBasketball, with its increasing world popularity, participation and monetary value, provides great opportunities for strength and conditioning (S&C) coaches to enhance performance. Designing effective training protocols for improved physical performance requires a thorough understanding of the demands of the game and a methodological process for combining all subcomponents, enabling the effective integration of the S&C programme within the overall basketball programme. Basketball is an intermittent game. It consists of high-intensity efforts followed by lower-intensity efforts, with intermittent stops in play. Heart rate response is often used as a means to estimate oxygen consumption. Evidence supports the importance of mechanical power for improving jumping, acceleration, deceleration, agility and anaerobic capacity in basketball athletes. Planning is also impacted by the current fitness status of the athlete, and needs to be assessed through field testing. Anaerobic capacity training is carried out utilising a tactical metabolic approach.
