Dr. G. C. Lewarine in an additional comment said that the Phosphatic Group at the base of the Clare Shales in the Lisdoonvarna region was locally developed in that district in the form of lenses. Although the Clare Shales themselves were often phosphatic in that they contained grains of phosphate minerals, no development of a “phosphate group” comparable to that found in north-west County Clare had been seen south of that area.
