ResumoAll rare book and manuscript collections preserve the culture and thought of previous times, and this is perhaps especially true of the rare collections of alchemica which have survived—despite the subject’s divergence from the trajectory of science—thanks to the persistent efforts of passionate individuals. Well-known alchemical collections like those of Elias Ashmole, Sir Hans Sloane, or Maurice, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel have variously furthered scholarly research over the course of the past few centuries. There are, however, smaller collections that remain concealed from all but the most specialized scholars due to the absence of a compre- hensive catalogue, a lacuna that has often proved difficult to address due to a lack of dedicated resources. It is therefore wonderful to see the publication of Franziska Schaudeck’s catalogue of alchemical manuscripts at the Leopold-Sophien- Bibliothek in Überlingen on Lake Constance, which reveals the collection and its contents to a larger audience.
