Resumo

The concentrates obtained during the extraction of diamond and gold in the bed of the Tocantins River (Tocantins River Lower Basin) in front of the city of São João do Araguaia, state of Pará, were analyzed by using stereomicroscope, x ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM/EDS) to identify their indicator and/or accompanying minerals (satellite minerals). Of note are kyanite, corundum, garnets, chrysoberyl, staurolite and florencite. These minerals are given popular names in national use among prospectors. Corundum is available in ruby and sapphire varieties and garnet-almandine-pyrope series. Most of them seem more diamond accompanying because of their physical characteristics, while florencite (phosphate favas) and partly garnet (almandine-pyrope), a possible indicator. Keywords: kyanite; garnet; florencite; ruby; sapphire; chrysoberyl; staurolite;
