ResumoThe Great Hack, a 2019 Netflix documentary directed by Karim Amer and Jehane Noujaim, explores issues of data ownership and data privacy through the example of the Cambridge Analytica scandal. The film highlights the power of data and those who control it and makes the case that data has been used to influence behavior toward preferred—or purchased—outcomes. Addressing allegations of interference in the democratic process, The Great Hack makes an effective appeal to categorize data rights as fundamental human rights deserving of explicit protection.
