ResumoSignificance One year on from the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, Haiti is crippled by insecurity, as gangs jostle for control and fund themselves from illicit activities such as kidnappings. Prime Minister Ariel Henry has international support, but lacks legitimacy domestically and appears unable to restore order. Impacts Prices of fuel and other essentials will continue to rise as gangs squeeze transport routes. Elections look highly unlikely to take place in 2022, and may not be held next year either. The international community’s continued support for the Henry government will further erode its credibility among Haitians.
