Both A queda dum anjo (Camilo Castelo Branco) and Triste Fim de Policarpo Quaresma (Lima Barreto) update the figure of Quixote. In this article, we try to enumerate the defining aspects of the quixotism of the protagonists, in a first moment, and the satirical reach of this quixotism; and then to emphasize what distinguishes Calisto and Polycarp, drawing conclusions from this distinction.
