The article discusses the most significant elements of knowledge production around Algerian rural society, by conducting an evaluation of the teaching of social sciences and sociology within the Algerian University. The teaching of sociology shows a strong relationship between the University, the political power and the society, where a notable tendency towards the "popularization" of social sciences indicates profound changes in the status of these sciences and, in general, in the place of knowledge in society as well as in the way rural society is studied in Algeria.
