ResumoHydrological monitoring of small catchments, especially those with a large altimetric difference and covered by forest, is still scarce. In this sense, the present work aims to quantify surface runoff at the scale of rainfall events and relate the hydrological variables of the Forqueta river catchment (Maquiné/RS), Brazil south. For this, hydrological monitoring was carried out in the catchment through a rainfall station and a meteorological station for precipitation, and a linigraph for the discharge, both recording data at continuous intervals of 10 minutes. After the data was obtained, it was organized, and rainfall-runoff events were selected. In total, 52 rainfall-runoff events were accounted for, and twelve hydrological variables were extracted from each event.Correlation analyses were performed between these variables and the difference between these variables seasonally was analyzed. The results showed that isolated rainfall events produce 50.55% of runoff.Hydrological monitoring at the rainfall events scale is essential to show the runoff behavior in the small catchment in more detail and assist in the water resources management
