ResumoAbstract This chapter uses clinical vignettes and multiple-choice questions to explore core and advanced principles of the Focused Abdominal Sonography in Trauma (FAST), including the extended FAST (EFAST). The cases will assess image acquisition pearls and pitfalls, image interpretation, false positive and negative findings, and integration into patient management. Clinical vignettes will include stable and unstable patients presenting with blunt or penetrating trauma, as well as nontraumatic presentations in which the FAST may be used. Each case will include detailed explanations for correct and incorrect answer choices, incorporating landmark studies as well as the latest literature that clinical sonographers will find of interest. Topics include liver tip, double line sign, spine sign, hemopericardium, gastric fluid sign, phrenicocolic ligament, iliac vessels, seminal vesicles, lung pulse, lung point, and M-mode in pneumothorax.
