ResumoIn the context of the Modern Movement, single-family homes were crucial for the development of architecture, as well as its acceptance at various levels of society.The experimental sites were extensive, allowing architects and clients to study new forms, materials and construction techniques, resulting in a new language, easily recognizable to this day.Many specimens produced in this period did not resist the passage of time, or due to the commitment of their conservation, demands for new buildings that replaced them, or for changes in the aesthetic values of their owners.The loss of examples of modern residential architecture is recurrent, since its value is still not recognized by a portion of the population, and because they are not under the protection of preservation agencies, making the issues related to the safeguarding of these works a contemporary challenge to be faced by the field of preservation and restoration worldwide.Affonso Eduardo Reidy was one of the main architects of the Modern Movement in Rio de Janeiro who dedicated himself to producing quality architecture for the masses, within the scope of his work as an employee of the city hall.He designed few single-family homes throughout his career, among which the two built for him and his partner, engineer
