Resumo• Red gum tree bark (RTB) derived activated carbon was prepared by the impregnation of KOH at 850 °C. • Enhanced supercapacitor performance in aqueous, organic, and ionic electrolytes for symmetric carbon/carbon electrode cells. • C-RTB offers a specific capacitance of >200 F g −1 with a large potential window of 3.5 V. • The fabricated device in ionic liquid was used to power an LED for more than 4 min after 10 s charging.
