Resumo

The aim of this paper is to analyse the verb + noun compounds (e.g.quebra-nozes) in Portuguese and Spanish, on the basis of a bilingual dictionary. This type of composition is frequent and productive in both languages.Portuguese and Spanish have a very similar vocabulary, so it's interesting to see if compound words are also convergent. It will be shown which Portuguese compounds have a concordant Spanish equivalent and which is the meaning and other characteristics of these compounds. The result is that more than half of the Portuguese compounds are the same or have very similar formative elements from a semantic point of view in Spanish. We complete the paper with the comparison of some neologisms that don't appear in the dictionary we have analised.
