Resumo

Alcohol is the most consumed psychoactive substance in the world, being a common practice among university students, thus constituting a serious public health problem. Objectives: to estimate the prevalence of alcohol consumption among medical students at the Federal University of Acre (UFAC) and its association with other variables. Methodology: cohort study lasting 1 year, in which the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) questionnaire was applied to 43 UFAC medical students. Results: the prevalence of alcohol consumption was 60.5% at the beginning of the first semester, it was associated with religion, 16.2% of students had excessive alcohol consumption. Conclusion: it is necessary to focus attention on UFAC medical students, in order to provide a deep reflection on alcohol consumption and how it can resonate in the future in their professions.
