Resumo

The dentist who performs surgery in his practice must be prepared to recognize and treat the complications that may arise. Most of the patients seen for dentoalveolar surgery are ambulatory and generally in good health. The prudent practitioner will remain aware of the possibility of concurrent or related systemic diseases that may cause complications during or after surgery. He must appreciate his limitations and utilize sound, basic surgical principles founded on an accurate diagnosis. Some complications are unavoidable, but most will be prevented by adherence to these principles.
