ResumoIn 1989, the anti-cancer drug Navelbine®, whose International Nonproprietary Name (INN) is vinorelbine, was commercialized by Laboratoires Pierre Fabre, ten years after its discovery by Potier’s team at the ICSN in Gif-sur-Yvette. The name “navelbine”, given at the start by the researchers of that team, comes from the contraction of nor-anhydrovinblastine, whose structure resembles that of vinblastine – a natural antitumoral compound isolated from Catharanthus roseus, and commercialized under the name of Velbe® in 1961 by Eli Lilly.
