Resumo. This study examines the way that the censorship of Portuguese films operated during the government of Marcello Caetano (late 1968 to 1974). To do this it asks particular questions. For example, which themes were most often censored? How many films were censored, and how many completely banned, and why? Does the early period of the Caetano government show a relaxation in relation to what could be shown in Portuguese cinemas? These are some of the questions posed in order to facilitate a broader understanding of this period of Portuguese history.
