Resumo

Most perineal infections can be remedied with simple diagnostic determinations followed by appropriate drainage procedures. However, infections with nebulous origin or extensive involvement demand astute perception of anatomic structure and a cautious, thorough approach using well established surgical principles. Additional methods of perioperative preparation and postoperative management are available to the surgeon. Familiarity with these varied concepts can provide the necessary capability to overcome the multiple challenges of perineal infection.
